A flight information display system (English: General Flight Information Systems / GFIS) is a board or a television screen that displays different arrival or departure occurring over a period of time. It is located in or close to the airport terminal. GFIS often used to guide passengers on air travel and those who want to pick up passengers after the flight.
Each row in GFIS means different flight number and are sorted by:
– name of the airline and airline code
– city of origin or destination, and stopover point
– the estimated time of arrival or departure and / or time are updated (reducing delay)
– gate numbers
In case of code sharing, a single flight can be represented by a number of different flight number , although a single aircraft that operate the route at that time. The rows can be sorted by time, name of the airline, or the city.
